Hello everybody, I am back with another problem.
When my brother notified me that his game started to lag, (Minecraft) I looked in to it and noticed that the cpu (Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @3.16GHz) was only showing one core in the task manager.
(Picture of Task manager: http://picpaste.com/Task_Manager_Picture-Dcp047Us.PNG)
So then I decided to install cpu-z and use that to look into it.
(Picture of CPU-Z: http://picpaste.com/CPU-Z_Picture-GBlLlbu5.PNG)
It also shows that the cpu is running on one core. (Bottom right)
The PC is running windows 8.1 and has a G33mo2 mobo, and a Geforce 9800 Gt 1gb gpu (I know it's old hardware but it was enough for my brother because all he plays is minecraft)

If anybody can help, I would greatly appreciate it

btw what's the file extension? .exe or .com?... or .bin in which case you need to update straight from the BIOS, just copy and paste the update file to a FAT32 flash drive and search in BIOS for something like "Update BIOS"

Just make small partition and install FreeDOS.
Open Disk Management -> select the last partition -> shrink it with 512Mb-> Select the new partition and format it as FAT32. No need for Indexing, compression, long file names, encryption.
Copy the BIOS file there in a folder BIOS and rename it to BIOS (or anything no longer than 8 symbols)
Download FreeDOS click
To install: Take random flash drive. Make a folder on your computer and...
Yea I have all that checked

Try this:

It only gives me this: http://picpaste.com/Desktop_7-9-2016_7-19-15_AM-341-rK05G6f3.png

That's not OK. Backup anything important (minecraft saves are located at "%appdata%./.minecraft/saves") and reinstall Windows.
If doesn't work get him i3 system. Just some i3 and a motherboard. I looked up in Google. Intel forums recommend bios update or to replace motherboard.

Intel's Penryn microprocessors (second generation Core 2) were released after the Intel 3 series chipsets were released. Penryn introduced a large number of management changes which necessitated new motherboard firmware for full compatibility. Please make sure that your motherboard has the latest firmware available as without it, the CPU may not be fully supported.

A quick search shows that the G33mo2 is a Foxcon product. The latest firmware revision available for this motherboard is version 722F1P34 which is available from Foxcon's website.

Is there a link you could give me because I can't find anything over bios updates and I don't know how. Thanks
Update: This is what it gives me when I ry to update it. http://picpaste.com/Capture-ePl1Qd21.PNG

Foxconn G33M that's the closest to G3MO2. And the BIOS is from 2008.

So will I have to install 32 bit windows 7 to run the update?

To install: Take random flash drive. Make a folder on your computer and place anything from the flash drive there (not on the new 512Mb partition). Format the flash drive with FAT32 and extract FreeDOS there. In BIOS disable SecureBoot, FastBoot, UEFI (if available, will interfere with FreeDOS) and set first boot drive to the USB drive. Install it by booting through USB HDD (most likely that's the name of flash drive) follow on screen instructions.
Now once FreeDOS has installed, boot FreeDOS and type this
dir *ENTER KEY*
cd BIOS *ENTER KEY*
dir *ENTER KEY*
BIOS.EXE (or whatever you named it.exe)*ENTER KEY*
*ENRTER KEY* = pressing the enter key ok?
If it works follow the instructions.
After it's done or failed, go back to bios and enable SecureBoot, FastBoot and UEFI, first boot drive should be either Windows Boot Manager (i think it's only under UEFI systems) or your HDD.

I did all of this but it still didn't work. It still shows 1 core. Is there any other cheap cpu/mobo combo i can get for $40? I went to the bios program and found the file, ran it, there was this weird cmd thing that kept popping up and then it didn't do anything. I ran it several times and it didn't work.

dell, intel, just OEM. dont expect anything fancy no 40 cpu+mobo unless you want i486 😀
