Here's the story,

I overclocked my CPU to 4.7Ghz right of the bat using overclocking software (EasyTune), then I played some Shadow of Mordor on 4K.

Temperatures were high at first, like 93 in the title screen and when I was playing, the temps were between 80 and 90.

Then I thought I overclocked by too much, so I decreased it to 4.6Ghz. Temps were slightly smaller sitting between 80-87 and I thought something's not right.

I decided to overclock my CPU through BIOS. 4.6Ghz OC on 1.2V.

After that, I opened Prime95 test and I got bluescreened. It said that I got "Whea_Uncorrectable_Error". I thought it's random, so I restarted the PC and tried again. Got the same error again. I thought okay, I will go back to 4.5Ghz.

It was running fine for 5 min and after that the temperatures started to skyrocket. At first it was fine, it was sitting comfortably between 70 and 72. Then in the 6th minute it started to crank up to 87 then 90 then 92. I turned off the test after it.

Any idea why does it happen? Is there anything I can do to overclock or is there something wrong with my CPU?

Solution

Not sure mate. Whenever you overclock, always go up by increasing by 0.1 or 0.2 of a GHz. So going to 4.1, then 4.2, then 4.4, 4.5 and so on. Start with a voltage of about 1v to 1.1v, and work your way up. Each time test the overclock for 15 minutes on something like OCCT. Keep going until you can't go any higher. Don't exceed 1.4v really. The way you went about it is all wrong, and I suggest starting right back from scratch and watching a tutorial on how to overclock properly.
Hope this helps
