I have an a7n8x dlx, with a thunderbird 1400, 1x corsair cmx 3200 512mb and some sibak cpu cooler.
First question: I can run this all stable at fsb 166 x 9.5 (1583mhz). Even 170 fsb booted, but only at quite a low multiplier....so this isn't an option. My guess is this 166 fsb is quite high, because amd, among others, tell me the t-bird is designed for 133... Is it 'extraordinary' that it runs at 166.. or ' just possible in some rigs ' ..?
second question:
With multiplier 10 (1666mhz) and 10.5 (1750mhz) (and even 11x boots, but freezes the moment i enter the bios) the computer boots normally until the moment that the 'choose your Os, either home or pro' SHOULD appear.
This just doesn't happen, all i see is a black screen or, less frequent, this error msg:
TRAP 00000006 ======== Exception======
tr= 00L8 cr0 =00000011 cr2= 0000000 cr3= 0000000
gdt limit = 03ff base= 0001700 idt limit =07ff
NoCY 2r int dis down trap dis
and a bunch more of this crap
Furthermore I noticed that after Sata detection this line was added to the boot:
1 -- Building DMA Pool ....................succes
(2 -- Verifying DMA Pool data........ succes)
Line 1 was never there, 2 has always been there.
Also the screen above this line was slightly altered.
Now, when i turn down the multiplier to 9.5x everything is back to normal, and runs perfectly. Is this problem due to the processor simply just running too high, or is it something else like the southbridge communications or the pci bus (master)??? Any ideas??
I looked 'trap 00000006' up, and it seems to be some kind of, mostly win2000, boot problem. But in their case it seems to be a permanent problem.
Hercules Radeon 9700pro, 5-2-2-2t, mem freq sync, running in single mode, Seagate barracuda Udma 4 30g, WD caviar 40g Udma 5, DVD in dma 2 mode.. xp pro corp + sp1
