My friend gave me a fan that he didn't have room for in his case, a few months go by and I finally get a 6-pin to molex connector for it. I connect the fan to the molex and plug in the 6-pin connector into the PSU to see if the fan actually works before i go through the effort to install it completely. I plug the psu cable back in and flip the switch, press the power button. My NZXT Hue lights flash and a case fan (with LEDs) flash and then everything stops. I flipped the switch and unplugged the power cable then removed the 6-pin connector, put the power cable back in, flip the switch and turn it back on, no problem. That is until i realize nothing is showing on screen. I check the motherboard to see what LEDs are on and the "CPU_led" is on. Check my mobo handbook thing (i have the asus m5a99fx pro r2.0 with an 8320) it basically said that the light stays on until the problem that is associated with the light is fixed. I turned off the computer and unplugged it all and took everything out of the psu but left the mobo plugged in to see if it was a prob with that but the light was still on. I'm assuming this means my CPU is done with and i need to get a new one but i'm in high school and don't really want to drop $145 on a new CPU especially because i don't even have a job. So I am posting here to ask what you guys recommend doing. My brother also has an am3+ cpu (8350) I thought about trying his in my computer but my dad said that if i use his it could fry his CPU as well (i don't think that's possible but i'm not 100% and don't want to risk it.) Is that possible to fry his CPU in this way or not? If it is should i just get a new CPU?
Thank you for any and all help in advance 😀
