i recently created a gaming pc. I have not installed an os yet. everytime i turn the computer on and i go into the bios and let it idle. the cpu heats up to about 60 degrees celcius after a few minutes and then the screen turns off. I tried using the stock cooler and then switched to an evo 212 cooler.
I made sure everything is correctly installed and tried re applying the thermal paste using a pea size amount. I am using an msi z97 gaming 5 mb and an i5 4690k cpu. I want to use my computer so much but it overheats in the bios doing literally nothing. please help!!

Have you got the latest BIOS installed?
Have you changed any settings in the BIOS?
How are your fans setup? Getting good airflow?
60 degrees Celsius is below the max temp but is concerning since your are only in the BIOS (unless it is actually going higher than you are able to see before the monitor shuts off).

You can download it from https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z97-GAMING-5.html#down-bios
Latest version is 1.D from 2016-02-17.
You should have a disk that came with your motherboard that has the BIOS on it. It might tell you the version, if it is less than this version then I would update. You usually just burn a CD and then use that to boot to the BIOS update utility and follow the prompts.
There are manuals on that site as well and you should be able to find the process for updating the BIOS.

Check this detail. Many CPU cooler systems arrive with a protective plastic film stuck to the smooth surface of the heatsink that pushes against the CPU chip top. You MUST remove that film so that the thermal paste can carry the heat away from the CPU. Did you do that before assembling?
