[SOLVED] CPU Overclock Won't Revert

Hi,

I've been overclocking my i7 9700k but decided to stop when my temps were high. I decided to leave it for another day, so went into the BIOS and reset all the settings.

However, my temps are still higher than they were previously and according to Core Temp, the CPU keeps changing between a 4634MHz frequency and anywhere between 0.8-3000MHz. This is also shown in my Task Manager. The temps are jumping between 30-40c which it wasn't doing before. They were previously stable at around 28-32c.

I just want to reset my CPU to factory settings and get rid of the overclock - can someone please advise on how to do this? Someone mentioned turning off multi core enhancement but I can't find it on my MSI MPG z390 Gaming Edge AC Motherboard.

If you remove the power cable from the PC and then remove the button cell battery on the motherboard and press and hold the power button for 45 seconds, it will clear all BIOS settings.

No, leave the battery out while pressing the power button. Then put it back in and put the power back in.

Hi, just done this but no luck. Task manager is still showing CPU speed jumping up to 4.6GHz.

Is that the Intel Turbo Boost?

If turbo boost is enabled it will fluctuate between your base clock and boost clock and can settle somewhere in between while in idle.

Uninstall the motherboard tuning utility and ITU (if you had any), then load BIOS defaults - that should revert things to stock.
