A FEW DAYS AGO I UPGRADED MY PC. T-BIRD 1.333MHZ CPU, ASUS A7M266 M/B AND 256DDR RAM. MY CPU IS ALWAYS OVERHEATED (60C IDLE). I'VE CHANGED SEVERAL CPU FANS BUT I CAN'T GET IT UNDER 50C AND IT'ALWAYS CRASHES AFTER A WHILE. I'M AFRAID IT'S OVERCLOCKED.. IS THERE ANY PROGRAM OR SOME OTHER WAY TO FIND OUT IF IT'S OVERCLOCKED? PLZ HELP

there should be a text on the cpu saying 1333.

sisoft sandra will tell you actual and rated speed.

From the sounds of it your cooler is partly to blame - what voltage is your cpu running at? It should be 1.75V (might read as much as 1.79V on Asus probe).

If you're using Asus Probe to measure CPU's temp, it's notorious for inaccurate reading (usually 5 to 10C higher than Motherboard Monitor).

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

I'm using the bios to see the temperature of the cpu and the board temperature so i'm sure it isn't incorrect. Besides, there are so many lock-ups and crashes that it MUST BE a thermal problem... either it's overclocked or not the sure thing i'ts overheated!

could be overclocked, but Sandra isn't the most accurate way to tell.
pull off your heatsink and look at the processor...

"A1333" is written on the cpu, that means it'ds not overclocked. Note this, when my cpu is idle it reaches at least 55c and the temp in the case is about 38C. Note this, my case is always open and it only has a fan on the power supply. Now, my cpu has a "Titan" manufactured fan workin at 5000rpm (it's not an expensive one) and very very little "Silver" thermal paste. I don't have any thermal paste now to put so i'll wait until tomorrow to buy some. i think i should buy a cpu fan too, what do you say? which do you suggest? these are almost all of my options: GLOBALWIN
FOP 32 for AMD & Intel
FOP 38 for AMD & Intel
WBK 38 for AMD & Intel
Thermaltake
VOLCANO II for AMD & Intel
Mini copper Orb for AMD & Intel
Super Orb for AMD & Intel
DRAGON ORB 3 for AMD
TITAN
CPU Cooler ãéá Intel & AMD which is the best? all of them have a heatsink too? Do you think i should buy a system cooler fan too? i'm waiting for your reply.

or it means someone stenciled A1333 on the top of the cpu. How would you know?

Anyway, of your list the Thermaltake volcano 2 is probably the best for the cash in my opinion (about $9 right?) I've read some good things about the Dragon ORB - but would still not be comfortable until more history is available.

Just got my Dragon orb 3, little noisy as expected, good clip to hold that weight. 7000 rpm version runs off a 3 pin adapter to 4 pin from psu otherwise its burntM/B, bios reports there is no fan. But apparently there is a way around that and its not a big issue, other hsf's run like that also. Dropped from 45 deg C on the mini copper orb to 28 degC average idle/ 1G axia@1150.

Very happy with it,and O so sexy too.

Will give a rundown at a later date on how its performing.

Crank it up... way up!! I need that power.
Edited by scotty3303 on 08/05/01 07:34 PM.

I still prefer my Alpha Pal-6035 with a 60 mm Thermaltake fan. Silent but deadly!!
