hello guys, i just wanted to ask this question because today i bought H.D 7790 and B.F.3 Runs with very good fps until the temp reaches more than 60 Degree (66) i tried the video card on my brother's Computer and the same happened
my specs:
7790 1 Gigabyte
F.X 6300
A.S.U.S M.5.A.7.8.L-M .L.X
my brothers specs :
f.x 6100
7790 1 gigabyte
Gigabyte GA 970 -D.S.3
when the temps reaches 60 and above noting can raise fps even changing settings to lowest !

Solution
This is because the CPU is not feeding the GPU with enough info for it to need to work at full when the CPU is throttling. With the gt 430 the CPU is not throttling so it is feeding it with a constant stream of info for the GPU to process.
ok very confused... your CPU is reaching 60-66°C? Why do you think it is a GPU issue? You tried the card in a different machine and that CPU overheated?

Usually if the CPU is overheating there are only a few reasons. CPU cooler is not seated correctly, Fan for CPU is not operating properly, CPU is Overclocked, Voltage on CPU to high, Dust clogging CPU cooler, Not enough air flow in and out of case.

i tried my old gt 430 and the CPU temps are 50-55 and i get 60-80 fps on bf3 , but when i use hd 7790 i get 120+ FPS in the first ten minutes (when the cpu temps are below 60) then it starts lagging (cpu temp is above 60 )

No it is not a driver issue that is causing the CPU to work harder. The fact that the CPU can now more freely process things in games has it working harder causing it to heat up. The CPU is working Harder = more heat. now if your cooler is not able to keep the heat down then look to the reasons I posted before.

Yeah, I've heard that FX series are more sensitive to heat compared to intel, but didn't know by how much. I've been intel biased for many years, and I've been gaming with over 80c. Not for longer periods of course, I stopped using stock coolers and now temps are around 60c.

yea Not just compared to Intel but even compared to the Phenom II's they have to run much cooler. The Phenom II"s can handle 70 - 72°C but the FX series throttle around 62-65°C.

Just a little extra info for ya. ;-)

then if the cooler is seated proper and clean, fan is working correctly and case air flow is unobstructed then go into the bios and see what the voltage is set to. If the voltage is to high then it can cause this issue in all cpu's. To test my CPU's during overclocking sessions I use Intel burn test. Just because the name is Intel does not mean that it will not work with AMD. It works with all CPU's.

I suggest if all else checks out ok, lower the voltage by one step and test. if you reach the throttle point lower it again and keep going till either you no longer hit the throttle point or the system becomes unstable. If it becomes unstable bump the voltage up by 2 steps and leave it there.

run ITB for 20 runs at maximum ram. watch temps during the whole test.
