My friends pc keeps randomly shutting off so he checked his cpu temps in his bios when starting his pc up again and it was at 104 degrees. I thought it was a lack of thermal paste on his processor so he bought more and applied it but it still turns off. It was working fine for the past month or two, is there anything else that could possibly be the culprit? His PSU is new, MOBO is new, and RAM is also new.

We cannot help without system specs.
please list them to best of your knowledge in this format.

He isn't with me right now so I will try to remember...
CPU: AMD Phenom II x955 Black edition
CPU Cooler: stock
MOBO: ASUS 970 PRO GAMING/AURA ATX DDR3 AM3 Motherboards
RAM: I'm not sure of the brand but he has 16 gigs
GPU: AMD R9 270x
Drives: He has an old CD drive and a 1 TB WD HDD
PC Case: unknown. it was given to him
Case fans: 4 I think. It's not that many but remember it worked perfectly fine for about a month.

Do you remember brand PSU and wattage?

I think it was an EVGA Supernova at either 650 or 750 watts

Hmm most strange. Did he check to make sure there isnt a bunch of dust built up in the CPU cooler or the Case? Dust is a PC killer and can cause extreme heat. especially makes me think it might be dust if it started doing this after a month.

He is probably asleep right now but I'll be sure to let him know to try to clean it and I'll come back with results tomorrow.

So he cleaned virtually all the dust out of his system and it is still turning off after a few minutes of running. The temperature was 89 degrees.
