So I just got a zotac 980 ti amp! Edition and installed it today (had an evga 760 acx before). After I installed it and ran a game for about an hour or so, my pc shutdown because my cpu reached 100 c (it's an i5 2400 with a stock cooler). I'm idling at about 48-50 which is actually pretty much the same as it was before, however the low 80s were as high as I ever got prior to installing the 980 ti. I've made sure all the fans are working and have reapplied the thermal paste. Running out of ideas now. Any help would be appreciated, sry for the wall of text

hmm, that makes sense. Although my gpu usage is always at 100%, so are you sure about the bottleneck? And if that's the case, would upgrading my cpu fix it? I was planning to upgrade to an i5 5690k, but that would also require a motherboard upgrade (currently using an Asus p8 p67). Any ideas what the best, most affordable option would be? I don't want to lose any benefits from my p67.

this is simple. if your cpu overheats from a new gpu than your new gpu is very powerful. so powerful that the cpu bottlenecks the graphics card while it tries to keep up. u either need a new cpu or a really good cpu cooler. if u dont upgrade though u will not get the full potential of the gpu.
