Hi there, i just moved in a small town and i brought my pc with me in pieces, all but the case. I ordered the case online and when it got here i assembled everything and noticed that the idle temp was 50 and when i would start a game it would go up to 80. I have cooler master water cooling and an i7 4790k.

Now here comes the part where I might

1. I didnt cleampn the cpu and the block with that iso-something alcohol because there is none to buy in this small town. Instead I cleaned it with a couple of cotton swabs with the smallet dab of water on them, im 99% sure that the water didnt touch anithing but the cpu plate. I also whiped it after with coffee filters so there was no lint left.

2. Is it maeby that the water cooler got damaged in the transport

3. Now this is a stretch. Is it possible that it was over heating because I didnt plug in the d drive that had some virtual memory on it. I didnt plug it in because i lost a cable

Sorry for my stupidity and bad english

MOD Edit: please watch your language

Did you use cpu paste?

80 is not overheating. In fact its running decently for not properly cleaning it.

ispropyl alcohol is also known as Rubbing Alcohol. Any drugstore even a small town one definitely has it. Clean both the cooler and CPU with it and then properly install it again. Should clear up your issue.

You should remove one of the side panels of your pc and check if the cooler is working... Cos those temps might be dangerous

could be a couple of things. often its air in the lines of the aio. easiest fix is to disconnect all the outside wiring, and then slowly rotate the case, giving any air a chance to float up the line to the radiator.

its also possible you have a loose pump. Aio's respond better to tightness at the pump. Many of those Corsair Aio's had an issue with some thinner motherboards, they were too loose. Use of Teflon/nylon washers under the backplate went a long way to fixing this issue.

Also possible that because paste is oil based, the water you used wasn't sufficient to clean the surfaces correctly and the new paste applied didn't actually spread correctly. Checking individual core temps will be of help there.

No way not including a drive will cause cpu temps to rise.

It is not overheating. Overheating for an i7-4790k is 90ish thats when it can start to throttle. 80 is still well within operating range. That said with a liquid cooler it should be far lower.

I can't believe nobody has rubbing alcohol anywhere, but if thats the case I would strongly recommend you order it, and then properly clean everything with it.

Is there another way heard lighter fluid works?

Lighter fluid is NOT a cleaner.... It is highly combustible. Either order Isopropyl alcohol (aka rubbing alcohol) from Amazon (or go someplace that has at least come into last century), ArctiClean from Newegg.....or, absolute worst case, find a store that sells QD Electronics Cleaner. Regardless of which you use, make sure you apply it to a lint free cloth FIRST.... Do not apply directly to the CPU.

I'd double check the installation of the cooler, wiring connections etc. Maybe remove the radiator from the case, give it (the radiator) a gentle shake to work air bubbles up to the top then reattach it. Try plugging the pump into a fan header that gets full power like cha_fan. With the pc on and running remove the side panel and gently touch the pump/waterblock to see if you can feel it running.

Feel the hoses to see if they feel cool, warm, hot, if one hose is noticeably warmer than the other. They should be about the same temp and slightly warm if the cpu is running 80c under load.

It could be any number of things from a trapped air bubble that occurred during the move, the pump speed not running at full speed or maybe the pump having issues if it turns out that cleaning everything with rubbing isopropyl alcohol and reapplying paste doesn't help. How old is the cooler?

Yea. Went around neighbourhood and found some 99% isopropyl alcohol and the temps are still the same. I did everything right since I have done it dozens of times before and have experience with cpu cooling. I also started to notice a high pitched buzzing sound from the cpu block
