Cpu overheating causing Gpu to shut down while gaming

Hello there

I just build my first entry level gaming pc about a week ago and I have run into some issues.
First of all these are my specs and components.

A8 7650k
Gigabyte R9 270x 4gb
ASRock FM2A88X+ KILLER
Sandisk 128gb ssd
Hitachi 500gb mechanical drive (my old pc's harddrive)
Hyper X Predator 8gb ddr3
Aerocool vx 550 APFC full range
Windows 8.1 64 bit

Okay now to the main point.

I built it all and when putting in the GPU I realised I didn't have 2 six pin connectors for it from the PSU. So I ordered a 4 pin to 6 pin adapter and while waiting for it to arrive I played Call of Duty MW2 on the on board graphics of the Cpu. Everything was fine just couldn't max it out but that was no big deal. Now that it has arrived and I installed the GPU, I came to an issue where the driver wasn't installing so I had to go through safe mode and install a beta driver I believe where I found the solution here:

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2297585/amd-ccc-failed-load-detection-driver.html

Now I'm using an old monitor of mine that is 22 inch hp with only a resolution of 1680x1080 and I have no problem with it besides it only supports VGA inputs. So I tried using an adapter I bought of eBay to convert DVI to VGA but it turned out that the adapter was useless. So I had to test out and install the drivers of the GPU on my Tv in my room which is Full HD.

I did that and this is where the real problems start to happen. I ran MW2 and the computer maxed it out on 1080p but after a couple of minutes the GPU shut down while the rest of the computer was on which resulted in a black screen. I restarted the computer and looked up on google and it seems to be that the AMD R9 series have some issues of that but they all seemed to fixed it. I then decided to run a temperature diagnosis while I run the game. I ran the game in windowed mode so I can monitor the temperatures and these are the results I saw.

Every component was in stable temperature besides the CPU. It had reached up to 85 degrees Celsius! I know that is way too high and before I could close the game, the GPU shut down again. Now I remember monitoring the CPU temperature when I played it without the GPU and it was running around 35-48 degrees max. I have read on other threads that the PSU could be the problem but I'm not too convinced that it affects the CPU temperature but then again I'm no expert.

P.S I'm running the stock CPU heat sink fan that came with the CPU.
I was running the game with the case open and I only have one case fan at the back
providing cooling, I know that's not great 🙁

Now my question is, what do i do?
Is the CPU overheating due to the high settings of the game?
Is it the lack of cooling methods for the CPU?
Do I invest in a new CPU cooling system? or is it my psu?

All help is much appreciated and thank you for your time!

Solution
The only software that accurately reports AMD temps is AMD Overdrive .
It reports a "thermal margin "which s how much hotter you could be without throttling .
Other software will report incorrect temperatures .

It is unlikely you have a cpu overheating issue . If anything the APU will be making less heat now that the graphics portion of the chip is not working .

If the gpu is shutting down [ do the fans stop working? ] its probably because the power supply is too low quality .

Solution
Before I put my computer together, My friend had my graphic card as I bought it first. He had no problem running the graphic card.

The thermal margin was varying around 60 degrees.
Note. This is running on a 46inch TV, could that affect the thermal margin?

The size of the screen makes no difference .
The resolution [ number of pixels] does as the graphics card has more work to do .

A thermal margin of 60C in Overdrive means your APU is running very cool. It could be 60 C hotter and still be fine .
Since you know the graphics card works fine

I suggest you borrow your friends power supply [ after all he borrowed your graphics card , right ? ]
and check to see if the problem is solved .
I think it will be . Your power supply is pretty low quality

Yes the power supply was the solution. The thermal margin was around 35-48 on max settings 1080p. but on desktop screen the thermal margin was around 55 and higher sometimes. weird.

To anyone reading this with an issue like that, its most likely your power supply, if it says it puts out 550w then it most likely doesnt, unless its a reputable brand. Good luck.
and thank you a lot Outlander_04. Much appreciated brother.
