Hi. My PC has been shutting down randomly while playing games. It turns off completely. I asked my local tech shop and they said it could be a problem with overheating. I checked the CPU temps and sure enough, they were reaching 99 Celsius while playing games. I brought my PC into the tech shop to get fixed, and they applied new thermal paste, re seated my incorrectly seated fans on the top of my PC, and installed a windows key on my PC, because it wasn't previously activated. I had to pay $130 for all of this. I brought the PC home, and I played all of my games fine for a few days. My temps still were reaching around 90 Celsius though. My computer was performing great and not shutting down. But today, i was in a game, and my pc shut down. I turned it back on, and sure enough, it shut down again in the next 15 minutes. The temps were reaching the high 90s again. What could be the issue? I really need help to figure out why my pc is overheating and shutting down. I'm going to bring the pc to the tech shop again, but im trying see if anyone online would know what the issue is. I am kind of worried about this. Could I please have some help?

I am using the wraith cpu cooler that came with the cpu, so keep that in mind, although the temps should still be much lower and the pc should not be shutting down even with the wraith cooler.

Solution
the Wraith Cooler isn't really that efficient, its only a mile better than Intel but still suffers around other branded CPU Coolers. I've seen a 2700X perform at 80C under decent loads.

First order of business would be to check if the processor and the fan's heatsink is properly in contact.

Take out the Cooler and check how much Thermal paste is applied, normally you'd only require a pea drop, but considering its a Ryzen, i'd say add two pea drops. Excess amount of Thermal Paste can also get the paste to act as a Insulator, trapping heat instead of releasing it.

Also using some random thermal paste isn't going to cut it for high end processors, get a decent thermal compound, I use a Kryonaut Thermal Grizzly for my 8700K and it is...

Check your cooler, there should be a Low-High switch on it. make it high (speed).
CPU voltage may be too high, try with negative offset of 0.1-0.05v

Also using some random thermal paste isn't going to cut it for high end processors, get a decent thermal compound, I use a Kryonaut Thermal Grizzly for my 8700K and it is very effective ( I've used Arctic Silver 5, MasterGel Pro before) and cheap as well ( in my country ) so if you can get your hands on that, you might have some luck with reducing your temperatures.

Also, are you getting a BSOD or is it just a black screen and shuts off, because if its an BSOD issue it may just be associated with your CPU, if its a plain black screen then there's a good chance the GPU is in on it as well.

Also check out the speed at which your fan is running, most of the times the fan is kept to be running at optimal or adaptive, if you don't mind the sound ( its a wraith after all, I don't think you'll be hearing much sound ) then turn on the fan to full speed in the BIOS.

What is your case btw, does it have enough airflow/case fans to push out the heat ?

With that all being said, I'd still advise you to get a decent Air Cooler, the Wraith isn't really that good as people claim it to be, it is far better than Intel but still suffers around other low end air coolers.

Do you have MSI afterburner installed? If you do then uninstall it and check again. As people above have mentioned a lot of possibilities. Let me tell you this. It could be a faulty cpu. Try checking it at your nearest service centre.
