CPU overheating for no reason

First of all, my specs:

CPU: AMD FX 6100 3.3 GHz 6 cores
GPU: AMD Radeon 7790 HD 1 GB
MB: GIGABYTE 78lmt-s2p
RAM: 8GB

Now the hard part, explaining the problem. So when I bought my new processor, as far as I remember everything was fine. No issues. Two months later or so, overheating issues, or at least I thought so. I'd start up GTA V, the temps would go all the way to 73*C and CPU fan would spin at around 6000 RPM (that's what HWMonitor and AIDA say, at least), which is not good as far as I know. I decided to clean the dust a little bit, replace thermal paste as well. After doing that, temps were better. I got like 68*C max while playing GTA V, with around 4000 RPM on CPU fan.

Everything was fine for some time, then problems started happening again. It's becoming worse and worse. At this moment, the temparure is 32* C with 2500 RPM in a room where I'm kind of freezing my ass. Just half an hour ago, I played Dishonored, game from 2012-2013 or so. I started it up, and after playing 10-20 minutes, I've got this:

Temperature: 76*C
CPU Fan RPM: 3500 (WTF, it can go way faster)

So, it's overheating, but the weird part is that CPU fan is still chilling at 3500 RPM, speed the fuck up what the fuck is this. Either my sensors are wrong or some other kind of bullshit. Honestly, I'm thinking of going to console peasantry, sick of this shit PC that I've got and all the issues that I'm recently experiencing.

Alright so, I decided to start from somewhere. I bought thermal paste, took off the fan from the CPU, applied new thermal paste. While playing Dishonored, average temp is 52-52* C compared to 70* C and even higher before. No idea what the issue was, maybe it wasn't applied properly the first time. Problem solved.

Are you using the standard heatsink combo that came with the unit if so replace it with a after market one such as a 212 evo from cooler master. If your over clocking set it back down to defaults for now how much thermal paste did you use ??? no more then a tiny pea size in the center of the cpu is needed. How many fans are in your system???? do you have at least 2 ??? one in front and one in rear.. Games will almost always ramp up your fan speeds and temps is your pc crashing? go into your bios and see what your temps are have you used core temp or real temp to see what the temps are or hardware monitor?

No need for any swearing. This isn't the place for that.

Sounds like your fan is failing. Replace it with an aftermarket cooler. Any gaming rig should use a proper aftermarket cooling system. The included fans sold with the CPUs are made for generic users who don't push their PC to any limits.

I forgot to mention that if I run games like Shadow of Mordor, the CPU will speed up. And yeah, my bad for swearing, I'm just frustrated. Also, why would someone buy FX 6100 for some general use and not for games...AMD never again.

get speedfan (free software) from the gigabyte website. Their BIOS fan control is woeful, speedfan works better for me, you can set the curve for the CPU fan. Also be aware that FX stock coolers arent great, but you should be able to get it down to 55c at load (shouldnt go over 63)

Inetl's stock coolers are a little better, but you'd generally want to buy an aftermarket cooler for those CPU's too if you're building a gaming rig.

Come to think of it, the only exception to that are the upper-end AMD FX line, which are boxed with a closed-loop water cooler 😀

I missed out on that one, my FX-8370 came with a stock cooler that made more noise than a spitfire when under load. Had to replace it straight away.

Honestly, at the price point they sell the FX-6XXX series at, it's a prime general use CPU. It's priced similar to a low end i3. I'm sure many people with limited rendering/editing needs would pick one. But rendering and editing don't cap it out like gaming does.

The solution is to get a good cooler, they're not expensive, but will help immensely. If you have the room, an EVO 212, but it's tall. If you don't have the height, there are many alternatives. I went with a closed loop H60 for my mini-ITX build

If I were from the same country as Nikola Tesla, I'd be pretty proud of it :)

But yeah, PC component prices seem to be going up in Serbia this year.

You might try lowering the clockspeed on the 6100 and undervolting it a bit to see if the issue clears up when you do.

Anyway, back on topic. I have a few more questions and I apologize for my lack of knowledge. If anyone has time and will to reply, I highly appreciate it. First of, I think that the issue is the way I put thermal paste. I didn't put too much, but dunno, I'll clean it again and apply new layer of thermal paste. Second, I don't have case fans. None at all. I think I should put at least one. However, I tried putting some (I think they were older fans) and instead to lower the temperature overall, the temperature actually got higher. I made sure that I put them properly, the temps still were higher than usual when idle. This is strange. Could it be that I used old fans and not new ones?

Next question that I've got, does anyone here have any idea what would be a reasonable price to ask for my PC?

Typically case fans on the front and bottom are intake fans; ones on the back and top are exhaust. The side with the inside of the curve on the fan blades is the direction the air will flow.

For that PC in Serbia, I would *guess* about $300. An equivalent PC would be a little over $300 new in the states and probably $200 used here. I haven't updated them in a while, but the "$300" ($327) build in my sig is similar. It uses a slightly stronger processor and a slightly weaker video card than your machine.
