I was just curious about something since my PC was shutting down while gaming recently. And I can't find any specific answers online so I'll ask here.

Will my PC shut down when the CPU reaches a specific temperature or will it shut down when being on a very high temperature for an extended period of time. Or is it both.

normally, if all is working right, when it approaches thermal limits it will throttle the cpu to bring the temps down. so it slows down the cpu, shuts off cores and such to keep the temp below the limit.

if it gets too hot still or suddenly spikes for some reason, then it will shut down the pc to prevent permanent damage to the cpu.
