Hello, I just bought an asus gtx 1080 oc RoG strix and it is causing my CPU (i7 3770k OC 4,2-4,5ghz) to overheat badly, I'm seeing tempatures on all 4 cores throttling at 100C degrees and I have no idea what is wrong, I just went out and bought new thermal paste and it didn't help at all, my cooling system is corsair hydro h80 with new arctic paste and 2 additional noctua push/pull configuration and power supply is corsair 750w, my motherboard is p8z77-pro ivy bridge and BIOS 2104.

(it overheats when I swap back to my AMD Radeon 5870 HD aswell)

all graphics drivers are updated ofc and I'm using windows 10 home

Please help, any ideas are welcome

It's doubtful that your new gpu is causing it to overheat especially if the old one does as well. Is there any chance you bumped something like a cable that powers your aio? I take it your radiator fans are spinning. Have you tried feeling the hoses from the waterblock to the radiator while it's running, see if they feel equally warm or if one is warmer than the other?

If no other settings were changed and the cooler is plugged in properly it may be a coincidence that your cooler failed. Ie, shutting down the system to put the new gpu in, turning it back on and that's when the cooling pump decided to go out.

i agree with him it sounds like you hit something and it is now loose. it may be possible a new big graphics card is pinching somewhere and not letting the hydro cooler work properly? it has to be something you did i would think if it works the same with 2 cards then it IS NOT THE CARDS. double check every little thing. also youtube a video on installing that cooler sometimes they have a hint or tip or seeing someone else do it makes you realize you forgot something/did something wrong or they thought of something you have not.

haven't been able to fix it yet, I made sure everything was plugged in correctly and all that multiple times, I tried if I could find a way to increase the rpm on my fans but can't get them it higher than 1400rpm, anyone think that might be the problem? and if so is there a way I can increase it? I have already disabled power saving mode and that didn't work

where you aware of this?? maybe it is set up wrong and not allowing fan to work at its potential?
The CPU Fan header when connected properly will show the pump RPM and it will or should not change the fans when plugged into the Cooling block will run at constant speed, you can change the settings the fan controller uses by pushing the button on top one light for stage one two light for stage 2 this is explained int he user guide and I would suggest watching the

Have you tried using the stock cooler? As bigal80ak mentioned, try resetting the bios. Power it down, unplug the power supply cord at the back of the psu, remove the cmos coin cell battery for a few minutes. Put it back in, plug the psu back in and start it up to make sure the bios is cleared to factory defaults. Just in case something changed with your overclock.

If your cooler is getting power from the cpu_fan header try a different one. It's possible the cpu fan header has a problem not allowing the liquid coolers to run properly.

like synphul said that is technically the best way to reset to defaults. i was just thinking of going in to bios to reset. you are sure fans are running? Are you sure its the CPU OVERHEATING? not the motherboard? Also i think there is a thermal sensor some where that picks that up SYNPHUL think it could be possible that it is not working properly and his cpu is actually fine its just making it look like it is overheating?

If it is multiple gpu's and coolers i think we can rule out them as the problem and focus on either settings/ or possibly motherboard? let us know about the setting and see if that works.

This may sound dumb did you take off the cooler for some reason to install the new gpu and forgot to redo the thermal paste?? seems unlikely
