CPU overheats HELP

I have a newer end rig all independently built. Just started playing destiny 2 on one of my 4k monitors and my fps is fine 60 capped. But I am running into a problem were the CPU is at 88 or 89 degree c. I checked my paste on my water cooler and CPU most of the taste is there and seems somewhat fresh. Anyone have a idea that maybe my water cooler doesn't work anymore or am I doing something wrong? My CPU is the i7 6700 lake
Useing like a 6-7 year old water cooler. Not sure how old it is a Corsair one though. Ty for responses and help!

If your water cooler is 6 to 7 years old the pump may be failing or has failed. Even if it is saying that it is spinning it may not be working.

I took the paste off and bought some recommended paste at my local computer store. So far so good my reading of tempt are low 60. For now I think I may have fixed it!
