So i recently got a pc off a friend for a low price, hasn't been used in years.
I've tried running lol and overwatch and both times it has been getting 10-40 erratic frames even on lowest possible settings.

Any ideas on how to remedy this

Processor: Intel Core i5-4690K
RAM : 16G
GPU : Nvidia GTX 950

Not the best with this kind of stuff so if im missing any vital info i will add ASAP.

Sorry for the late response, with no games running the temp sits around 80-85 however when in an actual match it was basically staying at 100c

Here is a link to the full info from the processor during overwatch, With all the lowest possible settings on.

This is an obvious problem right?
Definitely.

I'd check to make sure the cooler is snug and the fan is operating properly.
If so I'd run with the case open and see what that got me....and if it got something I would add case cooling.

Yes, over 80c is an issue and 100c will cause throttling. Are you using a stock cooler with the dreaded push pins?

I would make sure the cooler isn't dusty and the fan spins freely. Take the side panel of the PC off and see if anything changes.

Yeah sadly it's got stock coolers with those horrid push pins.

I had a clean when i got it (friend is a farmer so you can imagine how dirty it was) however i didn't fully get all the dust/dirt out, ill open her up and have a full clean now.

If i still have no luck would you recommend a new cooling system?

First, dust the system and apply new thermal paste. If that doesn't work, I would get a cooling upgrade since the plastic push pins like to fail after heat cycles.
Id reccomend throwing a cheap tower cooler on the CPU.
A Gammaxx 400 is a pretty good cooler with 3 heatpipes that cost only $20. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/w3...7434-cfm-cpu-cooler-deepcool-gammaxx-400-blue. Likely can overclock a bit with this cooler.

Way too hot so yea that's your issue. You can try cleaning out the stock one and reapplying the thermal paste for now but you really want a good aftermarket cooler anyways to keep temps within safe ranges. If it's paired with a Z87/Z97 motherboard you can overclock the CPU.

@remixislandmusic , as for the Gammaxx it would work but I'd avoid push pin coolers altogether as the pins can wear down after a few uses. I'd spend more and get the CM 212 EVO Black as it's easily to install then the previous version and if the motherboard is unlocked is a better choice for overclocking.
