I've recently bought the following:

X399 Sli Express (MSI)

AMD Threadripper 1900X

The Mobo comes with two 8 pin CPU power Connections, the PSU only has one spare. I have a plethora of Pci-e 6-8 pins and Molex cables. I'm not silly enough to try to 'force' a pci-e into a cpu, but I do want to know if there are any adapters that will take advantage of my spare cables, or if I am in need of the extra Cpu_pwr connection. I'm not planning to OC, or run gpu in SLI.

Probably be fine without it if you aren't overclocking. But really you should just order a power supply that has both connectors for peace of mind.

Lost of boards with an 8-pin connector that will be happy with just a 4-pin.

Are there any adapters to make a cpu power out of molex or pci-e 6/8 pins? Or is it completely incomparable in terms of delivery?

All just 12V and ground. You could easily make one.

Seems a lot of people sell the reverse, turning an EPS connector into more PCIe connectors, but no one seems to do the other way.

There is one that will split your single connector into two. Kind of defeats the purpose of having them split the load, but it would satisfy any logical needs the motherboard has at startup.

You could wire up some 8-pin PCIe cables into that if you wanted. You would have all the necessary parts. Simply pull the pins from a 6+2 connector and place them in the appropriate holes for the EPS connector.

Still really, just a better idea to get yourself a power supply that has them. You have some pricey components, no real need to go with a more budget power supply. If you ever do decide to overclock, or add additional GPUs (why buy an SLI board), a nicer power supply will come in handy.

To be honest, you make the better point of 'spreading the wealth' in a build. Problem is I find the PSU market, especially EVGA'S MASSIVE catalogue of PSU's far more intimidating than the GPU's buzz/flashword branding. Thanks though, I'll see about buying another psu that works for the build.
