Cpu question -LGA1155

so i have the i5 2320 and putting it on a asrock z77 extreme 4 -when it arrives-
the i5 2320 is sandy bridge. i want to upgrade the cpu to a ivy bridge.Is that possible since they are both lga1155? i heard there is a difference in size

All 1155 CPU's will fit in all 1155 modern Motherboards

the only reason i am doing this because i heard that ivy bridge is better then sandy bridge

And to make it more clear, I also had a 2320 i5 CPU and upgraded to a 3770k to the same motherboard and all went excellent! Afterwards i upgraded the motherboard to a newer more powerful one and no problems occur whatsoever
