Cpu ram vs motherboard ram

Im looking to get a I7 3930k just for a rendering setup. I had a look at ark.intel for some info on the cpu and I was suprised to see that the cpu only handles low fequency ram (sort of - DDR3 1066/1333/1600). The motherboard that I plan to get supports ram upto 3000 frequency, if I get some 1866 ram will my cpu be able to handle it?

The RAM speed depends on the motherboard. The RAM speed listed for the processor are just for design specs.
