CPU Reading Low

Hey all

i recently purchased a Intel E6300 2.8GHz dual core CPU and noticed it's core speed to be very low.

It shows Core Speed : 1607.7 MHz
Multiplier : X 6.0
Bus Speed: 268.8 MHz
Rated FSB: 1071.8 MHz
Core Voltage: 1.072 V

Also at P.O.S.T. is says my CPU is a 1.6GHz whereas it is a 2.8GHz Dual core.

My rig:

Intel 2.8GHz Dual Core
Gigabyte 945GCMX-S2 Motherboard
2 GIG Corsair 667 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 9500GT 1 GIG Gfx card
3 Hard Drives (2 X SATA. 1 X IDE)
LG IDE DVD Writer
300Watt Power Supply.

Forgot to mention that even when i stress the CPU using various apps the readings in CPU-Z stay the same

Go into your BIOS and verify whether the Speed Step feature is turned on or off. It automatically clocks your CPU lower when it's idle.

Welcome to the forums!

Yes, this is 100% normal.
When the system is idle, or only has a minimal load on it, the CPU will underclock itself in order to save energy.
As soon as you put a load on the system, the multiplier will jump back to 10.5x, giving you the proper 2.8Ghz.

I would suggest stressing your CPU a little more if you want to see it run at its rated speed... Prime95 would be a good starting point.

I just updated my bios a few min ago, problem solved
