Good morning Tom's community. It's been a couple of years since I came here for advice to build my first PC. I will forever be grateful for your help.

My main PC is an i7 - 4790K 4.00 GHz, 16 GB RAM, paired with a 980 GTX. And I intend to leave this one in my primary location. However, I will soon need to move to a secondary location but only for the weekends. I don't really want to take my current PC with me every time, so I decided to build a new PC.

I am more of a Witcher III kind of guy, if you get my drift. From time to time I will play some strategy games and perhaps a couple of RPG's. I mainly play single-player games. I'm not into shooters, so I don't necessarily need a 120 FPS ultra responsive equipment. A 1080p with a steady 60+ FPS will do just fine. I also don't need a 4K gaming experience to be happy. I'm pretty sure it most be a cool experience, but I can be perfectly happy with 1080p.

Finally, I am a very cost-benefit kind of guy. I want to land right in the sweet spot right before the real benefits start going downhill and the cost starts to rise.

Having said that, my questions are the following:

1.-Based on my needs, which CPU or CPU's would you recommend?

2.-I know this is not the right section to ask this but, while we are at it, would you mind to help me pair your CPU or CPU's recommendation with a MOBO that might give me some room for future upgrades?

Tom's community, I'm sorry if I dragged my actual questions for too long, but I wanted to express my gratitude and also give you an idea of who I am in terms of PC needs, so you can give me the best advice possible.

Also, if I posted in the incorrect area, I apologize in advance.

Thank you for your help.

There is not a huge difference between the 4790K and the 3600 in gaming especially if you overclock the 4790K which is still a good gaming CPU and overclocks extremely well... If you intend to play at 1440p or 4K then the 3600 will be worth going for but for high refresh 1080p I would go a different route.....
Get a b450m pro 4 paired with ryzen 5 3600 to get a steady 60 fps on the witcher 3. It will keep cool and with the extra threads it will let you do other things you want without heating issues and it would also let you upgrade your memory to ddr4.
