Hello!
So i've been thinking about replacing my cpu, but i dont know how to take out my motherboard, do i need to take out my motherboard from my chassi to replace the cpu, or can it be in the chassi while i replace it

Solution
Depends on the cooler and case design. The stock intel & AMD coolers can be removed and replaced from inside most cases, but after market coolers often bolt through and need access to both sides of the board - which some cases allow for and some don't.

If you've never done it before it would pay to do some research, watch some youtube videos or read some guides. Mainly take care and remember to clean off the old heatsink paste and apply some new paste any time you remove the cooler.

Current system details, please.

Step one should be to determine what your upgrade options are, or even if you have any. For that you need to know what motherboard you have. A program called Speccy is free and will tell you everything about your components.

If you have a pre-built, like a Dell, then their website is where you'd go for information on what upgrades your computer can handle.

For the most part a CPU replacement involves removing the heatsink/fan off the CPU, then removing the old CPU, then putting the new one in. Of course you'll need to clean off the old thermal paste and apply new paste. Depending on the design of the heatsink/fan, this process may require removing the motherboard.
