Question Cpu running 100c almost instantly on first boot

I recently built my first pc. I have an msi z390 ac with a built in heatsink on the mobo.Cpu is an i5 9600k. I do not habe a cooler on it yet. But when i tried booting it it shot up to 100c and was wondering if that was normal without a cooler? From what ive read the temp should be low when not doing anything. So is the reason it gets so hot because i dont have a cooler? Maybe ita supposed to run hot the first time?

You should NOT attempt to boot your PC with no cooler on your CPU. You will eventually damage the CPU.

Hopefully you didn't damage your CPU. It will attempt to protect itself.
