CPU Running at 80-95 fahrenheit whilst/after gaming. HELP.

Hello all,

Let me start by saying how much I would appreciate if anyone could help me out. My PC is playing up really badly and I think that I have found the cause of the issue: my cpu is over heating, and it is at it's worst when I'm gaming (I only play MOBA games and TF2/CS:GO). The question is why would it be doing this? I'm going to purchase some thermal paste tomorrow and try re-applying it to the cpu. I also had to change over my PSU recently due to an annoying whirring noise that the old one was making. I'm pretty sure it's got enough juice in it to keep all of my components running.

The following screenshot is of my current rig, I have left my PC to cool down for 10 minutes and turned it back on and BOOM - 63 degrees fahrenheit across my cores.. surely this isn't normal for the i5 760? I would imagine it would sit around the 30 mark whilst idle on desktop.

Hope one of you glorious people can get back to me with some suggestions, here is the screen shot of my CPUID Hardware Monitor stats:

You mean 63 Celcius*

Thermal paste won't help you out you should really buy a aftermarket cooler. (Some cooler at 20-30$ will do the job)

What cooler are you using?

I liekly seems like bad connection with the heatsink or bubbles in the thermal paste

your cpu cooler is not working check your fan ,but follow the Bromeh advice before it will be to late for the cpu .

Replacing the TIM if it is getting several years old is always a good idea. But I'll bet you need to blow the dust out of the cooler and fan. Also, it seems the CPU fan is running a bit slow for those temps. It should be off idle by the time it reaches those temps, I would think.

yes, I meant Celsius not fahrenheit. Just took of the heatsink and there isn't a lot of thermal paste, also it's not covering the whole of the CPU. fan seems to be running really well on the heatsink, just makes a lot of noise.

Ordered the thermal compound, I add a pea sized amount and spread it ALL over right?

I have the case open now and it is doing work, I put my hand over it and cool air is coming off. I'm almost adamant that it is indeed the lack of thermal compound, but I've never put any on. Over the past 2 1/2 years my PC has got a LOT of use, being on like 15 hours+ everyday. Would the thermal paste wear away? I've read it doesn't, but you know.. 'the internet' etc.

After thoroughly blowing clean your cooler's fan and heat sync, I would clean the old TIM from both mating surfaces with Arctic Cleaner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100010
Then Use the purifier to leave the surfaces prepped for the TIM of your choice.

Just put a pea sized dab in the center of the CPU's heat spreader, and it will spread itself out in a circular pattern. The actual processor dies are actually located in the center under square heat shield, so it isn't necessary to manually spread it across the whole surface.
