[SOLVED] cpu running for a few seconds with just a waterblock

I ran a ryzen 9 3900x for three seconds with just a waterblock (no liquids). The pc still runs fine...but have I damaged the cpu already?

You could have, depends on what the temps got up to.
The real question is why would you run it like that.

The temps couldn't have gone up to that high, right? It was simply trying to enter the bios.

To fill the waterblock without the cpu running requires unplugging several cables and jumping the psu. Its just too much work for me...

CPU temps can spike past maximum within seconds without a proper cooler.
Water cooling is always going to be work, why get lazy right at the end? Its best to do it right the first time so that you dont have any issues.

Your processor is probably fine, but I wouldnt recommend doing that ever again.

will ryzen shut down when the temps go past safe ranges like intel processors do?

It will, but sometimes processors heat up so fast the thermal protection kicks in too late.
Like I said, its probably fine.
