CPU running high until restart ?

I noticed today when my system started that the fans were running hard. Checked my CPU idle temp and it was at 60 C! Shutdown and started up again and now it’s running fine at 34 C idle.

This has got me worried as to what may have caused this ?
I built this rig three years ago & give it a regular clean every few months. I’ve not redone the thermal paste since owning so maybe that’s worth doing at some point ?

Maybe my H100i is due for replacement ?

Any sugestions would be appreciated.

I should add that before restart, I opened the case up and lightly tapped the H100 hose. Maybe it had and air blockage or something ?

My setup -
i7 - 4930K / ASUS Sabertooth X79 / Corsair H100i / 32GB / SSD 840 Pro / 4TB HD / GTX 980ti / GTX 970 / XFX Pro 850w black.

I have a very similar rig with a 4970k and an h100i and i can say confidently that this is not a real issue. When i run a stress test i hit about 65 degrees and level off and 60 degrees isnt dangerously hot by any means so the noise is the only problem. I think you probably had something in the background taking up a lot of resources and fans always run hard on startup. try running a stress test and use CPU-Z or HW-Monitor to see what you end up at. if you pas 75 i would try replacing the thermal compound but anything below that is fine. If you dont own a program for this a cheap and easy way is to use blender to render a very complicated 8k light map on a complex model or something similar as that will peg the cpu at 100%

Thanks for the reply -
I'm a heavy C4D / 3D user. Lot's of motion graphics,etc..
I know my machine well and this was no normal for it to be like this after startup. The fans working overtime and when I checked the cpu temp it was at 60 C. Nothing running in the background, no rendering, etc...
Guess I'll keep a close eye on this and see if it happens again over the next few weeks. Freaked me out!
