STORY: So, I recently moved across the country and shipped my computer with me. It was packed pretty standardly (wrapped in bubble wrap, double boxed, popcorns and bubble wrap around the interior box) and when I unpacked it I noticed that the CPU fan had come unseated. Reseated it firmly, and it booted up without any issues, but I noticed severe hitching running any games. The processor was running at 100% the moment I booted anything up. After troubleshooting with software, we double checked the hardware again and noticed that the thermal paste needed to be reapplied. So we did that, and now I can run games.... Barely.
My CPU is now not using 100% of it's processing power to run games, but it is running INCREDIBLY hot. 45c idle (nearly idle, just chrome open; was at 44c when booted up with just RealTemp monitoring it), and it shoots up to 85c-95c+ when running games.
We're pretty much at a loss currently, what else could be causing this? My PC was running perfectly before I shipped it, so I can only imagine that something happened during shipping. The only thing I could possibly imagine this could be at this point is that the GPU became unseated during transit, and isn't running at capacity, but GPU-Z is showing it fully functional.
tl;dr: I moved, my heatsink came unseated during shipping, cpu running at 100% for any game, reapplied thermal paste and reseated it properly, cpu now idling at 45c and rapidly shooting up to 85c+ the moment a game is launched, but no longer running at 100% capacity.
