What are some reasons a CPU fan will power up for a few seconds and then shut down?
Im attempting to build my first computer and I keep running into this problem. I thought at first it was because my PSU only had a four pin connection for what needed eight pins (the atx 12v cpu fan hook up) but I just got an adaptor for it and the CPU fan still seems to be shutting off after a few seconds. The hdd, gpu fan, misc fans, dvd rom and front panel lights all continue to run. It's the the CPU fan the shuts off.
This is my build
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A85X-D3H
CPU: X4 750K
GPU: HD 5830
PSU: hec HP585D 585W ATX12V
I don't know how relevant it is but thought I might also add the my hdd light blinks in a pattern when I attempt to power on the computer.
-.-.. (- are blinks) this is about the best I can explain the pattern.

Your PSU might be 585w but does not have enough amperage on the 12v rail to run your system. That psu only has 15a on the 12v rail and you need 35-40a for a 5830.
) good luck.
