CPU socket temp abnormally higher than cpu core temperature?

Very strange, I have a amd 8320 cpu stock clock and a deepcool gammaxx 300 cpu cooler push pull. I have noticed that while the core temperature stayings in check ( about 55 degrees while playing battlefeild 4) the socket temperature can get as high as 75 degrees. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

This is usually due to hot air getting trapped behind the motherboard. I remedied this and an issue with my vcore temps getting high by rigging up a 40mm fan near the top of my motherboard running at 40% blowing air behind the motherboard and onto the VRM stack.

I had the same issues you are having and now my socket temp is only a few degree's higher than my CPU package temp.

I am using HW Monitor to get the readings I posted earlier.

I have a vent in the top of my case, would it be possible to install a fan there? killakallies, how did you install a fan to blow behind your motherboard?

Take the side or sides off the case. Run it and see if temps are a lot lower.

If so you have an air flow issue in your case causing hot air to stay in there. Let us know how it goes. Also what case do you have?

I used probably 3 or 4 zip ties to solidly secure the fan resting on the top of my motherboard so that part of the fan would blow air under the motherboard and the rest is blowing on the vcore heat sink. It may take some creativity to get it mounted so that it doesn't move around. I was lucky and found some good places to zip tie it off too right around where I wanted it. Using black zip ties will help it to look not so homemade, for the temp drops I experienced though I could care less if someone things it looks a little off.

As for the vent on the top of your case. If it has mounting holes that match up with either a 120mm or 200mm fan then you would definitely be able to mount a fan there. If you provide me with the make and model of your case I could better direct you to which fan! As general practice I always have more fans blowing into my case then out. This will help to create a positive air pressure in the case helping to reduce hot spots and dust buildup. If you do mount a fan on the top have it push air out of the case in order to quickly remove the hot air that naturally rises to the top of the case.
