Hello. Recently I started to rebuild my old PC, I dont have much experience with it and need some help.
My current CPU is i3 530 (old i know) and im wondering if i can upgrade to i3 8100 which have slightly different socket.
Thanks in advance

That would require a new motherboard and DDR4 RAM. Not only is the socket important but also the chipset. An i3 8100 will only work on 300 series chipsets such as H310, B360, Z370, Z390. Even though 100 & 200 series motherboards have the same socket they don’t support 8th or 9th generation CPU’s.

The i5 530 is on such an old platform any upgrade will require a new motherboard/cpu/RAM. Also if the psu is as old as the i5 530 then it’s time to change that for one that supports Morden power states and isn’t near end of life.

Have like 500w PSU, recently bought R7 260x and just now realized my CPU is the problem. Which motherboard would you suggest? Consider im on a tight budget and I bought that GPU

Ok so lets say I found i3 8100 for around 120$ in my country's webshop, i could order 8gb DDR4 ram for another 50-60$ so that leaves me around 50-60$ for a motherboard that fits everything. Doesent need to be high end, just needs to fit my gear
edit. Also have MS Industrial Thunder PC case
