CPU spikes that pause all sound

My computer is having frequent intermittent cpu usage spikes, during which all sound pauses. I can usually cause it to happen by reloading a website, but it will happen rather or not I'm doing anything. I've tried reinstalling my sound drivers, and it seemed to fix itself, but after a few days, it was doing it again. Each pause lasts 2-3 seconds, and then continues where it left off. So if someone speaking is midword when a pause happens, they'll finish the word when it ends. It almost always corresponds with 100% cpu usage, but I've been unable to identify anything that is specifically causing the cpu spikes. I haven't noticed any other slowdown from the spikes. A game won't experience lag, or lose framerate. Youtube will pause the video once the spike ends to allow the sound to catch up.

Check you have latest drivers for your motherboard, it might be caused by lan or chipset drivers.

try setting power plan to high performance, and in advanced options, set hdd to never turn off
