If I held my CPU on the sides while on the carpet did I damage it with a static dishcharge? It didn't come with any anti static wrap so I'm assuming it's safe to touch without static protection. It is a i5 4690k by the way.

It should be ok but it's better to stand on a hard surface like tile, wood, etc when doing things like that. Static discharge if any occurred at all may not show signs for some time, it may just cause premature wear. It's best to ground yourself to the case when dealing with internal components but the chances are low that there was damage if holding it by the edges.
