So I was replacing the CPU cooler on my and ryzen 3 1200. And when i was trying to remove the CPU heatsink I pulled out not only the cooler but also the CPU. I've tried floss, hairdryer, isopropyl alchohal around the edge of the CPU, and I even gave it a alchoal bath for 5 min in out of ideas. If anyone has an idea I would really appreciate it.

How to uninstall and install an AMD processor and a heatsink / fan in a system

Note! Twist in a clock and anti-clockwise rotational direction, which creates a shear force in the thermal interface. Failure to break the adhesion seal between the HSF and the processor may result in pulling the processor out of the socket, possibly resulting in processor and / or socket damage.

I prefer not to use thermal pads but instead use a good thermal compound such as Artic Silver 5.

Unfortunately, the best thing you could have done would have been to power the system up and allow some heat to build. This would has slightly loosened the heatsink and made it easier to remove (just for future reference). Personally, I'd probably go back to the hair dryer on high.

I HIGHLY recommend the new IC Graphite Thermal Pad. Way better than Arctic Silver, and it goes on dry. It's also reusable.

I'm slightly convinced this is stolen alien technology as it works so good for being a dry pad. 😉

Is that the stuff they discovered in 1947?
