What socket of the D351 you have ....? if it is Socket 478 looks OK... but better check with your motherboard ...

Which board you got?

The Celeron D 330 looks to be socket 478 only. The 351 had a socket 478 and a LGA 775 version. The two sockets are not interchangeable.

There is no way you are going to run Windows 7 x64 well on either processor. Will it run it? Yes. But not well enough to spend money upgrading either the processor or Windows. Celerons were crap when they were new and those are beyond obsolete.

You are trying to upgrade obsolete hardware. The only reason to run Windows 7 x64 is to run more than 4GB of RAM.

Once you start upgrading things as old as what you have there is no stopping. You are going to need to do a full rebuild. The parts you have now will not even work with new hardware. The standards have changed too many times.

It's just crazy to think about building a Celeron D machine for any reason but especially to run Windows 7 x64.

Sff as in small form factor? Yes you can do a new build around one but it severely limits your overall upgradeability.

What do you use the computer for and what is your budget?

Ok so you can get away with something cheap. Why do you want to upgrade to Windows 7 x64 and what kind of an upgrade budget do you have?

Do you already own Windows 7? That's $100 right there.

As I stated above you may not even be able to reuse any parts from that old computer if you have a socket 478 machine. You will need.

1) Motherboard. ~$70

2) CPU. ~70

3) RAM. ~$45 for 8 GB

4) Probably a new hard drive. You probably have an IDE drive and new boards do not even have the interface anymore. ~$ 75

5) Power supply. Depending on what you have it may not even support a modern ATX board. ~$ 45

6) Optical drive. Once again it's probably IDE and you will need SATA. ~$20

7) Windows 7. $100

So assuming you can reuse you case you are looking at $400-$450.

Even a netbook for ~$250 would be faster than the Celeron you have now so that might be an option.
