Question CPU Swap

I currently have a custom system with an i7-6700. I would like to replace the CPU and motherboard. How easy is it to swap to another Intel or an AMD. I would like to avoid reinstalling my programs. Thanks

What are full system specs?

If you get another Intel CPU compatible with your current motherboard you might be able to keep your OS (Windows?) and programs.

If you get a different motherboard, for example if you want to switch to AMD compatible one, you'd need to reinstall OS and programs.

Depends on your setup.For me it was around 1hr to swap out my fx 4170 to my ryzen 5 2600 even with all the rgb.Depends on what you have if it's custom loop water cooling etc then it gets a bit tricky

With a motherboard swap, that is never a given. Even Intel->Intel, or AMD->AMD.

System specs are: i7-6700, MSI H270-A Pro, Corsair Vengeance 16gb 2400mhz, MSI RTX 2060

The best CPU I can get with my current mobo is an i7-7700k. However if changing my CPU is going to cause me to reinstall programs I’d rather not. Thanks
