Good day everyone well my AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE, done a perfect job for couple years, but I feel it lacks cpu power for my demands, so looking for Intels cpu specially for Xeon, in my eastern europe country used ones are quite cheap, well i though it will perfectly satisfy my demands since my computer 70% work time working as server station, for hosting games, apache servers etc, and 30% as game platform, dont suggest me intel i5/i7 since their price same as 1995 year used car, so no, currently my eye spinningon Intel Xeon E3-1620, but damm bro 2011 socket MBs cost quite high, so I looking for good combos (CPU+MB only, ram, cooler I have) for that, requirments are:
1. 4x Dimms or more DDR3 support, I don't want to switch to ddr4, I know it faster and better but my budget says NO!
2. PCIE 3.0 and SATA 3.0 support, but it could be optional if price are too high.
3. 4 cores and 8 threads, or if cpu is quite fast 4 cores 4 threads.
4. No gigabyte, asrock since from past they always burned for me, ASUS would be priority MSI second.
5. Price for combo no higher than 160€
Well free to use amazon, ebay etc well i out of luck and price goes over 160€
Well thank you for your help.

OK, you can look at LGA1155 Xeons Ivy Bridge. Ivy Bridge paired with a B75, H77, Z77 chipsets should provide you with PCIe 3.0 and SATA III. Some even include USB 3.0.

Xeon E3-1240 V2 compatible motherboards. Most if not all should work with the E3-1290 V2. I can only find the E3-1290 list since the E3-1240 V2 is the same release date and architecture. Compatiblity should be common...
The only other option would be Nehelam based LGA 1366 Xeon. Which will have similar performance. They are based off the first Generation Core i series architecture. The top of the line LGA 1567 will likely be more expensive and hard to find.

You will be limited to PCIe 2.0. But a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot is fast enough for any current GPU. As for SATA III support. You will have to install a PCIe card look at PCIe x2 and x4 card for full throughput. Steer clear of Dell boards as they are oddly shaped. Some OEM boards (Dell, HP, &c) may not support Westmere.

Be prepared. Check the manufacturers CPU support list. For use of the latest Westmere you may need to do a BIOS update. In which case buy the cheapest Bloomfield you can find to perform the update with. Which usually run about $5 in the US for the W3520. Which would likely demolish that Phenom II.

List of motherboards which support the Xeon W5580. Many will require a BIOS update. They should support older 1366 Xeon models. Some will likely support the W5590. But support will be limited due to the later release date. So check a motherboards specific CPU support list before buying. Also check the support list if a BIOS update is required. If so buy the cheapest CPU supported on the original BIOS.

Well my current specs are:
MB Asus M4A77T
RAM 10GB Corsair ValueSelect
GPU: Asus Nvidia Geforce GTX960
So xeon nehelam wont do the trick, 4 cores at least, even w5580-90, w3520 almost same performance as phenom, how about we start from 2010 cpus?

My sig rig was £100 for cpu and £40 for mobo inc delivery from ebay, a few years ago now I think to, you must be patient with ebay, you'll get the same maybe even i7 2600 non k. Search 'e3 1230' and look for v1s or v2s or search 'i7 2600', 1230 v1 and v2 and will work in most b75, h77 and z77 mobos, the b h and z should have all the features you want just check manufacture's www for zeon support before buying. The i7 2600 and 3770 (bit pricier still) work on any of those chipsets. Best bang for $ there is imo, good move.

LGA 1356 Ivy bridge may be an option. Although you will be stuck with dual socket motherboards. Which can sometimes come in quite cheap.

If you look down the Xeon list. You will also find LGA 1150 and LGA 1151 Xeons. There are just too many to list and link.

Here are LGA 1150 Haswell motherboards compatible with the E3-1230 V3 others of that line should also be compatible. As always check before buying a specific board.

I'm not seeing lists for LGA 1151 Skylake and Kaby Lake compatible motherboards. I imagine most current motherboards are compatible.
