CPU Temp below room temperature

Hey,

I'm in the midst of OC'ing my 6300 on a Asrock 970 Extreme 4 board. I thought I'd give the boards auto OC feature and it seems to have me running @4GHz no issues at all.

One issue though, I'm looking at my temps in CPUID HWMonitor and my CPU Package temp is reading roughly 16 degrees with a low of 12 degrees on idle, and maximums of 43 degrees on max load. How come I'm getting temperatures lower than room temperature during idle? That doesn't make any sense to me 😛

I'm cooling with a Hyper 212 evo and case fans creating a defined airflow pattern so I expected low temperatures but below room temperature worries me that the program is reading incorrectly, and I could actually be burning out my CPU or something! I tried a second program (Open Hardware Monitor) And it gives me the exact same readings.

Im just nervous that the readings are completely off and I won't be able to tell when my OC is getting too hot. Any words on that?

they are pretty much impossible temps all right.try rebooting and going into the bios to read temps.if they read the same as the other two temp monitoring programs i would say you had a faulty sensor on your board.

Alright my BIOS reads 30c, that seems much better. Its sort of hard to test my stress temps if I can only get temps from the BIOS though. I read somewhere that some CPUs read the wrong temp at low temperatures, but at higher temperatures they're more accurate. Think this could be it?

hard to say.the good news here is that the bios reading is different indicating that its probably not a faulty sensor on the motherboard.try a program called occt.it has a pretty good temp display as well as a wealth of other info on your system.you can also use it to test your overclock stability.
