I am using a Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW-P with a pair of AMD MP 2400+ processors. The CPU temperatures were Originally around 55 and 60 degrees Celcius for CPU-0 and CPU-1 respectively with the stock AMD heatsinks and fans that came with the CPUs.
I recently installed a pair of Vantec AeroFlow VA4-C7040 heatsink/fan combo on my dual cpu's. I used heatsink compound that I bought from a local CompUSA store that had the label, "Artic Silver" (not/not "Artic Silver III") on the package. The CPU temperatures immediately dropped to around 39 and 43 degrees Celsius for CPU-0 and CPU-1 during the first three to five days after I installed the Vantec fan/heatsink. However, five days after the Vantec fan/heatsink installation, the cpu temperatures climbed to 49C (CPU0) and 56C (CPU1). The two CPUs' temperatures have stabilized at those numbers, but I don't know why they would have risen by ten degrees Celsius like that. Can anybody offer any tips or advice as to why the temperatures would have gone up -- especially when they were fine for almost a whole week after the new fans/heatsinks/heatsink compound were installed?

I used the instructions from Artic Silver's webpage to apply the heatsink compound.

I'm using an Antec Truepower 480W power supply; the case is a Lian Li PC6002COM case with plenty of airflow.

I'm new to the world of heatsink and cpu coolers...

leads me to believe that there was some sort of residue left on the CPU or heatsink surface which affected the contact between both surfaces... RE-APPLY ! Make sure that you clean the CPU and heatsink's surfaces with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab or gaus pad and let it DRY for a good 15-20 minutes.. and don't touch either surface. Then you can re-apply and you should be fine.
