[SOLVED] cpu temp is above 80-90 even when idle

so recently my games started to cause lag specifically valorant , i thought it was the windows issue i installed the window but my fps still dropped and pc lagged while viewing 1080p videos on youtube so i checked the temp it was as mentioned above 80-90 what should i do?

Remove CPU cooler, clean off the old thermal paste, apply new paste, remount cooler.

Make sure the fan works and the cooler isn't too dusty.

That usually means your CPU cooler failed or something happened to it.

Check if your pump on your liquid cooler died, or if you are running an air cooler see if your fans died at all.

If not, re-paste the CPU and reinstall the CPU cooler. If you've had the 4790K since like launch year, there's been enough time since then where the thermal paste has dried up and degraded.

They are only for RGB control and probably can't be connected on a system of that age.

ok that wires were inside the fan so it stopped rotating , now its working fine thank you all for the replies and help , much appreciated <3

1 last question whats the normal cpu temp when idle?

depends a lot but there isn't really any normal temp at idle. under 80c for sure.

15-20C above ambient.

So if your room temperature is 25C, then 40-45C for cpu at idle is fine.
