CPU temp is unusually high

I'm running a core i7 965 at stock speeds right now. I installed a rather large water cooling system that has only the cpu in the loop, but the cpu temperature idles at about 40 C according to Real Temp.

I'm running a MagiCool XTREME NOVA 1080 radiator (9 fans) and an RD-30 pump so I would figure the cpu should be much cooler. I've reseated the water block and reapplied thermal paste many times but I still arrive at this same temperature.

What am I doing wrong? Would air bubbles trapped in the radiator cause this much of a temperature spike? Thanks.

whats your ambient temps... 10C above ambient would be a good idle temp.

And if your p95 load temps are under 60C you are good

On load for p95 my temps spike up to about 80 C. The room temp is sorta cold, about 18 C I think. This worries me, could I have done something horribly wrong with the thermal paste?

Does anyone have any similar experience with this radiator? It seems like there must be something substantially wrong with how I have it setup to justify load temps in the 80s.
