CPU temp OK?

Pentium 4c Northwood, 3.2GHz
Intel retail box heatsink & fan

Abit AI7 mobo
Antec TruePower 380watt PSU
Antec Sonata ATX mid-tower case ("world's quitest pc case")

My CPU temp is 49-celsius
System temp is 35-celsius
PWM temp is 49-celsius
I have settings at alarm temp being 75, shutdown at 78


What do you think of this temp? Is this running too hot or just right? If too hot, what do I need to do to cool it? What is a good range to run the CPU at, and when is it too hot? What do you have set as your alarm & shutdown temps?

Temps are good.

If you want to reduce the temps more you should use an <A HREF="http://support.intel.com/support/processors/pentium4/sb/CS-008537.htm" target="_new">Intel approved 3ghz chassis</A> which will help dramatically.

Generally anything below 60° C is acceptable for CPUs.

Just keep that cpu temp below 60c.

That's awful! The stock 3.2 should come with the copper-bottomed heatsink. Did it? Did it come with that crappy thermal pad or the heatsink grease square in the center? If it came with the grease square it will take a couple of days to simmer down. If you lap that heatsink and use AS-5 you will chop 5C off of those temps easy. I won't run a P4 that idles above 45C. TOO HOT DOOD! You could see 60C+ under load and that ain't a Prescott you got there!

His temps aren't that bad. Yes they are a little high (But still well within reason), but thats not to say his case isn't sitting in a warm room. Or what about airflow in his case? It could be a combination of things, his chip may just run a little hotter than yours.

Yea, I'm running at 40C idle with a 500mhz overclock. I'd say he's a little hot! The only time I see 50C is playing Doom3. He'll just have to see if temps fall a little as the heatsink sets in. Winter's coming anyway, he'll be nice and toasty! :lol:

A lot of heat is coming from the v-regs.(PMW-49c) That board is known for it. Still a very good board. If you dont have one already, get a psu with a large, bottom fan. It will help a lot.
