My temps at idol are 30c. However I decided to download a game from steam and decided to run windows defender. Once I did this my cpu temps went to 67c. Now I'm not too terribly worried about the temps but I was wanting to know if any of you guys have the same problem when running a virus scan like windows defender.

p.s. Windows defender was taking up 42% of my 4790k usage. I was kinda shocked tbh.

BiggerBluer,

Sorry to pop your bubble, but your question is basically invalid.

There are far too many hardware, software and environmental variables involved to determine whether or not your processor temperatures are appropriate compared to someone else's rig, based upon downloading a Steam game while running Windows Defender.

Downloading and virus scanning, as well as applications, rendering, encoding, gaming, and web browsing, are partial workloads with fluctuating temperatures, which aren't suitable for thermal testing or comparing temperatures, but they're great for endless speculation and debate.

The reason why there are so many conflicting reports of different temperatures, is that everyone tests their rigs with...

The reason why there are so many conflicting reports of different temperatures, is that everyone tests their rigs with different stress tests, clock speeds, Vcore, coolers, ambient temperatures and measuring utilities that read two different types of processor temperatures.

There are only three relevant values; Ambient temperature, Core temperature at steady-state 100% workload, and Core temperature at dead idle. Nothing else matters.

There's a proper way to test your rig, so you might want to give this a read to get yourself up to speed on this topic:
