CPU Tempature jumping around up to 80C!

Hey!

I have a odd Problem and Need advice... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just upgraded my Cpu from a I5-7500 to a I7 7700K.

I used thermal grizzly Kyronaut thermal paste and spread it out evenly. Not too much but also enough. As a Cooler I have a Scythe Katana 4.

The I5 (Old Processor) had a constant tempature of around 34c when idle and and max 60 while gaming.

This one jumps around between 34 and 52 while Idle and up to 70c and 80c just when opening a game! Not even playing yet!

What could this be? And how do I solve it?

Airflow is great. All fans working. Cooler has contact to the Cpu.

Thanks in ahead!

Thermal paste doesnt need to apply everywhere, its only to fill the small gaps.

This is why the dot method is so effective, because it only gets pushed into the gaps. When spreading it, it can be possible that there isnt enough...

When applying thermal paste, you don't need to spread it.

You just apply a pea sized dot and put the cooler on top (which spreads it evenly for you)

Check your fan is actually working.

Nothing else really.

Thanks for the quick Reply.

I´ve had bad experiences when just putting on a dot and putting the cooler on top. The thermal paste doesnt apply everywhere and I dont get thermal paste on all the Surface.

Fan is working perfectly fine and is also reacting to the heat increases and decreases.

7700k does run a bit hot--definitely hotter than my 6600k was at same speeds and voltage

and it does those weird spikes in temperatures now and then which my 6600k didnt

thats an ok cooler though not top end

remount the cooler see if it improves

also is that at stock speed?

or overclocked?

Thanks for your answers.

The cooler is quite cheap but also worked fine with the I5. It isnt even hot though... I just touched it towards the bottom while running the Pc (Dont try this at home) and ist really cool!

I remounted it and added a bit more thermal paste because it was so thin i could even see the Intel writing on the Cpu. Same issue-

It is at stock Speed. Not OC yet---

Im pretty sure I havnt. I watched 3 online guides before and applied it just as shown in These Videos.

OK, not sure why you aren't asking them for their sage advice then, you've followed their method, which more than one of us here disagree with, and you won't accept that this could be a problem.

This is why the dot method is so effective, because it only gets pushed into the gaps. When spreading it, it can be possible that there isnt enough at certain parts because both surfaces of the IHS and the CPU heatsink arent perfectly flat.
