I just got my PC up and running after over 2 years of non-use. When I booted it up earlier to test it out, it went straight to windows and loaded up just fine. I turned it off to get some cleaning done, and to move it back into place. After moving it, however, it is giving me the CPU Temperature Over ERROR and forcing me to go into the ASUS BIOS. In BIOS, it says my idle cpu temp is 88 Celsius and isn't changing, with a motherboard temp of 27 celsius. I don't know what to do. I'm not using any water coolers and the stock Intel fan.

Solution
Asus has always had problems with the AI suite III causing conflicts in BIOS -

googe for Ai Suite III cleaner or un-installer, it's from Asus, download it to your desktop, then not using it yet, un-install Ai Suite III in control panel, then reboot into safe mode and then use the AI suite III cleaner

i'd try that first - i had the exact opposite experience where Ai Suite III never showed temps over 67C. even when rendering video files with cpu showing 100% load. Used it for temp monitoring - then one day downloaded RealTemp and it was showing 97-100C, it would rise to 100C, then drop back to 97C then rise back to 100, and kept repeating. DOwnloaded intel's XTU and it showed the same temp pattern

You'd think a board mfgr would not...
No doubt about it 88C at idle in Bios is way too much. I would have said to uninstall AI Suite if it was just in windows however as you mentioned you moved and cleaned your system and this Overheat has occurred then I would inspect your Cooling system and replace your TIM. Check for dust build up in the fins and fans of your Air cooler.

You'd think a board mfgr would not release a pc of crap software, and even if they did, would not let it remain fubar'd for 4+ years
