Hey everyone.

So to cut a long story short, I think I have an issue with my temperatures. They seem extremely high for something that is currrently being watercooled.

Idle:

Specs:

Intel i7 5820K

Asus x99 Deluxe

Corsair Hydro Series H60 water cooling

At first, the temperatures were around 40-45 degrees idle. Now, they are in the 60's and I haven't changed a thing. Is it possible I have a defective unit? I already made sure there wasn't the plasitc casing on the heat sink. Also reinstalled it to make sure it wasn't because of improper connections.

Solution
@mistersprinkles I'm currently using 3 fans, one of them is on the radiator of the H60.

I'll check the vCore at idle/full load first thing tomorrow, currently not home.

@markw I've had this machine for about 6 months. As for the fluid levels, I'm not certain. However it's a closed unit so there shouldn't be any need to add fluid, I don't even think it's possible.

And no, I haven't overclocked the CPU. It's all stock, which is why I'm quite confused as to why my temperatures are so high.

Those numbers are all over the place. Your pump is at over 4700rpm (which I've never seen one do that high before) or your cpu fan is at that speed.

1.19v VID isn't awful, for an OC at load, for idle it should be closer to 0.906 or so.

It's almost like you have processes running and you are not at true idle. Check task manager/processes tab when you believe you should be at idle, everything under cpu should read 00 except idle process which will be 99.

Corsair directions say to put the pump on cpu_fan and the fan on any other header, I'm not a fan of that, much prefer to put the fan on cpu_fan and the pump on cpu_aux, that way I still have cpu control over cpu fan speeds, and cpu_aux is either normally 12v for 3pin or can be software locked at 100% duty cycle

I agree H60 isn't adequate for 140w 6 core, but even that cooler should keep it cool at idle. Are you at stock or OCed? While at stock settings 5820k is idling at below 20w...

so bad cooler combined with either bad mounting or defective unit...

- is there firm contact with the cpu? Do you feel the pump/waterblock getting warm?
- is the pump running? Can you 'feel' water flowing when you squeeze the tubes? Do you feel heat difference near pump vs near rad.
- what kind and more importantly how much thermal paste did you use?

Edit: ok so you're OCed. For some reason i cant see the pics on my mobile...

There is firm contact.

I don't necessarily feel water, but that might be because the tubes are sturdy. As for the heat, it feels warm all around.

I used arctic silver thermal paste, and I used just enough to cover the whole chip. I didn't slob the thing with thermal paste, nor did I put too little to not cover the topside part of the chip. I put just enough to cover the whole top part of the chip without making it excessive.

Is it tight. There is one thing of note about clc pumps, the tighter they are on the cpu, the more effective they are, unlike aircoolers which only need to make firm contact.

And when you checked processes, you did check the box for all processes for all users?

The h60 is @ 180w cooling potential and you are using a 140w cpu. You should be seeing temps only slightly better than the stock cooler. You do have a little headroom as far as heat goes, but not that much. It is, however, adequate for a default stock i7E, but that's it. Adequate. For the money, there were better options, like a nh-d14. Can't fault you for wanting a clc, its just a little undersized for that cpu.

I have a question to an expert: What is the temperature Package? For loads up to 101 Celsius, without load quickly jump between 50-75.

I'll probably try to upgrade to the h100i. I have a full tower case, however the way it's constructed I'm not sure if it will be able to fit. That was my concern before, which is why I went for the H60. But I guess now I have to find a better way to cool this thing, because I want to stream as well as do other things and I'm concerned that it's running hot almost all the time. Not good for the CPU.

To answer your question about the tightness yes it was very firm and tight. I took it apart today to see what was going on and what to do next. Thinking about heading to Tigerdirect tomorrow to get some thermal paste (ran out!) and possibly buy the H100i and see what I can do.

What would you recommend? Or anyone on this thread for that matter? I just need something to keep this damn thing cool. It scares me when I see 80-90 degree temps playing games, and that's not even including streaming or any heavy lifting.

I appreciate all the help as well guys/gals. Nice to see people who are much more skilled at computer building than I :).

If you ask me, you're better off with high end air cooler like noctua NH-D14 or NH-D15 than CLC even if it's a 240mm. CLC does look cooler i admit, and 240mm ones are cooling on par or just a tad better than dual tower air coolers, but with added cost and noise plus a pump that can break, potential air bubbles that can cause issues and the fact that you have water running around your PC....
