CPU temperature readings are not normal.

Yesterday my CPU temps read a chill 40 degrees. Today, the fans are pumping full on, I'm still above 4 ghz (skylake) but the the BIOS temp and my mobo software temps readings are in the red, 100 degrees Celsius. I've been ok for the past 2 days (newly built PC) and everything was fine until today. Anyone got ideas on what's going on? (I'm running a 2015 bios, but since it was ok the past 2 days i'm thinking thermal paste, cooler, and dust as well as electrostatic discharge are improbable. The only real thing that pops to mind is the temp sensor got all messed up, although that is also improbable).

No it shouldn't be a problem, your platform controller hub is probably at idle, some motherboards have a save power feature which idles down the voltage when you don't need it. Your PCH also should be around 40 degrees celsius, its max temperature is 66.8C.

okay, i get that, but i just looked at my BIOS fixes, the newest ones are still in beta and are not yet out for widespread release. The only change to CPU was Update CPU Microcode which a quick google search meant that it was just supporting future skylake processors, meaning that the BIOS firmware problem probably wont be solved by flashing the Bios.

The problem you are having could be caused by a corrupted BIOS. The new one doesn't have to fix anything, it just fixes the corruption of your current BIOS problem. Just like re-installing your Operating System when it is corrupted.

The problem you are having could be caused by a corrupted BIOS. The new one doesn't have to fix anything, it just fixes the corruption of your current BIOS problem. Just like re-installing your Operating System when it is corrupted.

Ok, got it. I'll flash it tomorrow and see if there's a fix (I might let it sit down overnight though, if it was some sort of error with something).
