CPU Temperatures with speedfan

Current specs q6600 G0 @ 2.4 with an Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro cooler.

Are the temperature readings with SpeedFan accurate? I was using an older version of SpeedFan to measure my temps today, but after I updated to the latest version(4.37) I've been getting abnormally high temps.

Before, I was idling at around 35c, but SpeedFan tells me I'm idling at 50c now. I thought this might have been a mistake, since it seems rather high but Core Temp also reads the same temperature of around 50c.

I wanted to OC my CPU to 3.0, but after seeing such high temperatures, I'm a little hesitant to try.
