Over the last couple weeks the CPU temps have started to fluctuate a bit. Idle temps which were usually around 38C, are now around 40-50C. Getting really high temps playing almost every game 70-100C. I know this is bad. In fact I was just downloading a large file from a webpage and temps hit 98C. Turning off game though will bring temps back down in the 40s.
I have taken the liquid cooler off twice now and replaced thermal paste. Cleaned all the dust out of the case. Opened the case to allow more cold air in.
I touched the hoses of the cooler and one is hot and the other cold. Cooler plate did feel warm to the touch under those higher temp loads.
So i can't tell if the cooler is dying or the CPU is starting to fail?
CPU: i7-4790k
